Tib Street – Good News !
Work on Tib Street began on 10th March 2008. We expected to complete the works on 2 water mains between Swan Street & Market Street in 12 weeks. However, the remaining works between Church Street & Market Street will be completed this weekend, meaning the total job will have only taken 9 weeks – 3 weeks less than our initial estimate!
Thomas Street / Hilton Street
Work on Thomas Street will commence on Monday 12th May and will last for 9 weeks in total. This is being split into 3 sections. Section 1 will see us working between the junctions with Shudehill and High Street. This will take us 2 weeks to complete. During this time the buses are being diverted to avoid the area and the only vehicular access permitted will be to the car parks on Salmon Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and all the businesses will be open as usual.
Section 2 will start on 26th May and will last for 6 weeks. This will see the section of Thomas Street closed to vehicles from High Street to Tib Street. All the Thomas Street businesses will be trading as usual and pedestrian access always be provided. Deliveries to or from the businesses on Thomas Street won’t be able to drop off or pick up in their usual positions, but we’ll do what we can to help. Whilst this work takes place, there will be no right turn from Tib Street into Thomas Street.
Finally, section 3 of the work – Hilton Street (from Tib Street to Oldham Road) will start on 14th July and will last for 1 week. This section of Hilton Street will be closed to traffic and there will be no left turn out of Tib Street onto Hilton Street. Again pedestrian access will always be maintained and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
Whilst the work takes place, you may encounter worse traffic delays than usual. Please allow more time for your journey into this area, or explore alternate routes to your destination.
